Latin-style Mongolian spelling varies between writers, so occasionally you may need a hyphen (-) to get the exact Cyrillic you expect.

How to use

  1. 1

Type Mongolian in Latin letters in the top (or left) box — the Cyrillic conversion appears below (or on the right) as you type.

  2. 2

    Special keys: q → ө, w → ү, apostrophe (') → ь, double quote (") → ъ. All on a standard Latin keyboard.

  3. 3

    An `i` after a vowel (а, э, и, о, ө, у, ү) becomes й. Example: sain → сайн. To keep и, put a hyphen between: sa-in → саин.

  4. 4

To keep two letters separate instead of merging them into a digraph, put a hyphen between. Example: t-s → тс (without hyphen, ts → ц).

  5. 5

Wrap Latin words like brand names in square brackets to keep them unchanged: Bi [Apple] avlaa → Би Apple авлаа.

  6. 6

Hit the 'Copy' button to put the result on your clipboard — paste straight into Messenger, Facebook, email, anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How do I keep a Latin word (like Apple or YouTube) as-is?
Wrap it in square brackets: Bi [Apple] avlaa → Би Apple авлаа. Anything inside [...] passes through untouched.
If I type 'ts' I get ц, but I wanted тс. What do I do?
Put a hyphen between them: type 't-s'. The hyphen tells the converter 'do not merge these two'. The same trick works for any digraph — use s-h for сх, k-h for кх, a-i → аи, and so on.
Does it preserve capitalization?
Yes. 'Sain' → 'Сайн', 'SAIN' → 'САЙН', 'sain' → 'сайн'. A capital first letter in Latin produces a capital first letter in Cyrillic.
Why does q map to ө and w map to ү?
The Latin alphabet a–z has no natural equivalent for ө or ү, but q and w are unused for Mongolian sounds. Repurposing them is the standard convention and keeps everything on the base keyboard.
Do I need to type accented letters like Ö or Ü?
No. Only the standard Latin a–z, apostrophe ('), double quote ("), hyphen (-), and square brackets ([ ]) are used. Works on every keyboard and every phone.
Is my text stored anywhere?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to or stored on any server.
