GPA Calculator
Calculate your Grade Point Average (GPA) by entering credits and grades for each subject. Perfect for tracking your academic progress.
All scales are 4.0-based. The NUM (МУИС) and MUST (ШУТИС) options follow those universities' current regulations; other institutions may differ, so check your university's own policy.
Quick answers
How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, sum them, and divide by total credits. Example: 3 cr A (4.0), 2 cr B (3.1), 3 cr A− (3.6) gives GPA = 29.0 ÷ 8 = 3.63.
What score and grade points is an A?
On the common Mongolian scale an A is 95–100 points, worth 4.0 grade points. Individual universities may differ slightly.
What is a good GPA?
Above 3.6 is considered excellent. Scholarships and exchange programs typically require a GPA above 3.0.
How to use
- 1
Enter the name of your subject (optional).
- 2
Enter the number of credits/hours for that course (e.g., 3).
- 3
Select the letter grade received (e.g., A, B+).
- 4
Click 'Add Subject' to include more courses in your calculation.
- 5
Your GPA and total credits will update automatically in the result box.
Formula
How is GPA calculated?
GPA is a credit-weighted average of your course grades. Each letter grade converts to grade points, is multiplied by the course's credits, and the sum is divided by total credits — so a 3-credit course affects your GPA three times as much as a 1-credit course.
Example: Mathematics (3 cr, A = 4.0), Physics (2 cr, B = 3.1), English (3 cr, A− = 3.6): Total points = 3×4.0 + 2×3.1 + 3×3.6 = 29.0 Total credits = 8 GPA = 29.0 ÷ 8 = 3.63
Common scale: letters, scores and grade points
Many Mongolian universities use the following scale (NUM also used it before 2021, so it fits older transcripts):
| Letter grade | Score (%) | Grade points |
|---|---|---|
| A | 95–100 | 4.0 |
| A− | 90–94 | 3.6 |
| B | 85–89 | 3.1 |
| B− | 80–84 | 2.7 |
| C | 75–79 | 2.3 |
| C− | 70–74 | 1.9 |
| D | 65–69 | 1.4 |
| D− | 60–64 | 1.0 |
| F | 0–59 | 0.0 |
Other universities (МУБИС, СЭЗИС, ХААИС, etc.) have their own assessment regulations — check with your academic affairs office for official GPA calculations.
NUM (МУИС) grading scale
Since 2022, the National University of Mongolia uses an A+ scale (academic regulation 4.5.16), identical to the national model set by Ministry of Education order А/144 (2024). Choosing МУИС in the calculator applies this table:
| Letter grade | Score (%) | Grade points |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 95–100 | 4.0 |
| A | 90–94 | 3.7 |
| B+ | 87–89 | 3.3 |
| B | 83–86 | 3.0 |
| B | 80–82 | 2.7 |
| C+ | 77–79 | 2.3 |
| C | 73–76 | 2.0 |
| C | 70–72 | 1.7 |
| D | 65–69 | 1.3 |
| D | 60–64 | 1.0 |
| F | 0–59 | 0.0 |
In NUM's official table the letters B, C and D each span two score bands with different grade points (e.g. B is 83–86 = 3.0 and 80–82 = 2.7). The calculator labels the lower bands B−, C−, D− — pick by your score range.
MUST (ШУТИС) grading scale
The Mongolian University of Science and Technology follows the national model (А/144) scale per its 2025–2026 student handbook. One quirk: an F carries 0.5 grade points (WF for dropped courses and R for retakes count as 0). The ШУТИС option in the calculator applies this table:
| Letter grade | Score (%) | Grade points |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 95–100 | 4.0 |
| A | 90–94 | 3.7 |
| B+ | 87–89 | 3.3 |
| B | 83–86 | 3.0 |
| B− | 80–82 | 2.7 |
| C+ | 77–79 | 2.3 |
| C | 73–76 | 2.0 |
| C− | 70–72 | 1.7 |
| D | 65–69 | 1.3 |
| D− | 60–64 | 1.0 |
| F | 0–59 | 0.5 |
MUST's pre-2024 scale was different: A 96–100 = 4.0, A− 91–95 = 3.7, B+ 88–90 = 3.4, B 84–87 = 3.0, B− 81–83 = 2.7, C+ 78–80 = 2.4, C 74–77 = 2.0, C− 71–73 = 1.7, D+ 68–70 = 1.3, D 64–67 = 1.0, D− 60–63 = 0.7, F = 0. Keep this in mind when comparing older transcripts.
How to calculate cumulative GPA (CGPA)
Cumulative GPA is the credit-weighted average across all semesters. Enter your current GPA and earned credits in the calculator's optional cumulative section and it combines them with the new semester:
Example: a student with a 3.20 GPA over 60 credits who earns a 3.60 GPA over 15 credits this semester: (3.20×60 + 3.60×15) ÷ 75 = 246 ÷ 75 = 3.28.
